Hi. I have an idea. Using this hack: castlevaniamodding.boards.net/thread/56/super-castlevania-iv-castle* Replace the default Belmont character, and put the Leon´s Belmont: static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/0/3693/241222-leonbelmont3.jpg* Now, let´s make more interesting... remove the morning star whip and just use the Leon´s Belmont sword. * The sword will have 3 levels as the whip, "normal" sword, "light sword"(just make it bright) and the fire sword (add the fire in the sword). Use the same damage value and the same second weapons * I know, there are some parts of the where you must use the whip in other to continue the game. Well, I suggest remove that areas or use the whip just for that especific area or action put it in a action key for example Y What do you think?. Regards!

I would not bet on doability of such, since I never seen anyone imported other chars/actually new weapons, like sword (whole animation need to be changed, not just sprite of the weapon, otherwise it will look wierd), into CV4 before. Neither I ever tried to work on this game myself...

I did not see that people create sprite sheets for SC4. You asking for making a new playable character. Here I made a patch with a new playable Skin. I had to draw a lot myself and it is far from perfect. www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=24158.msg354205#msg354205For your idea to work you would need to hack Simons Sprite assembly resources. You need to hijack control Code and write costume assembly. You need to hijack the whole whip routines what is a big portion of the game that needs to be reverse engineered first. I made a patch so you can run in the game when pressing A. Also added some other functions. I released it in my fun patch collection. Coffee hacks here: www.romhacking.net/hacks/4909/I did include the ASM file if anyone is interested to build up on it.

Will this patch work with all of the SCV4 Hacks? i.e., other castle, and dark palette hacks.

The ASM patch more likely and you can make that one fit with changing some pointers. The Sprite patch probably with Other Castle but not newer hacks like the Remix one. It would work with dark palette if you apply the darker palettes first. When I make patches for the base game I try to put my code somewhere to avoid conflicts. Something to know about SC4 hacking. You work with a editor that does expand the base game to put a lot of the content in the expanded section to give a hacker more freedom and space. The files are also decompressed and ready to work with. The editor did change the location of graphics as it was in development. This was in a time where hacks been made. So you can't make graphic patches fit since IPS is dumb and just dumps bytes to a binary offset in the file. So you kinda need to know what you are doing. Here a example how Simons Sprite sheet looks in the extended ROM. The left side is the ROM the Right side shows my assembly for PyxelEdit. Here a example that shows reused sprite regions with color. It would be possible to rearrange tile-mapping but it is very time consuming to do. If anyone knows full sprite-sheets for skins that fit let me know.

Actually some newer patch engines will actually add the bytes for you when patching to a normal rom. Not always though. Still, it is promising to know I might be able to change the character in those hacks. It's at least enough to make me want to replay them.

I think xdela patcher will check the bytes it is patching. I don't think they have more features. Since some stuff is way out of the offset. The only thing that comes to my mind is ASM patches with asar. There you can do if statments but this is a lot of work for a bit extra comfort. Here is a work in progress hack. That one is not going anywhere right no since I am busy doing different small projects to sharpen my skills and have some fun. Revers engineering toke priority on SC4. I had like to learn some C++ to do simple changes to SC4ed to make it more convenient. Eventually will get back to that project: www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=28089.msg372186#msg372186

HEY GUYS! It seems our old friend bogaabogaa has been holding out on us! lol. I am currently talking with him to see if he will agree upon putting up some GREAT WORK soon. Look for it in the WIP Section. If He agrees I may add my combination hacks to the Release section. Here is hoping it all works out. If it does, SCV4 fans REJOICE!!!

I haven't played anything new for sc4 beside hardmode hack and altersquest. Sure there are small stuff like ponchos don't move and cv1 items. The other things are self made and don't count as new for me. I wish people would find interest in SC4 modding. But what do I expect it is a very old game and there are so many modding options. And sure starwyvern. Feel free to share patch combos and things you like from me. I don't seek credits so feel free to do with it what ever you like.

Well my new friend, you got credited anyway, whether you wanted it or not. All combo hacks posted to SNES Releases. Bloody Crusade and Bloody Crusade Plus posted in WIP. Great work man. Really great work.
