It always looked so dumb that player can't use proper stylish evasive skill, while scene with Hugh clearly shows Nate doin one. I like it this way much more, fits the game perfectly.

Dracula laughs at such a cruel misfortune that should befall our happy go lucky Nathan.
But yeah, the moveset feels really freaking clunky here. It's almost like the devs were trying to make a Classic-Vania, but got told at the last possible second "This will sell better if it's a Metroid-Vania."
It's the only thing I can think of to explain the aforementioned moveset clunkiness, along with why gold doesn't show up at all, or a shop with which to spend that gold.

Out of 3 gba CV games, COTM is lowest quality one. Devs had no time to make properly playable Hugh with own story, where Nate would be final boss. After that Hugh would sacrifice his father to become new Dark Lord for true bad ending. Yet we have absolutely useless items & shameful unlockable modes. Nate have evasion animation non usable in gameplay. Player have to walk/run around to evade, it looks dumb. No stylish backflips or shadow dashes. Loot & grinding is another horrible thing. You can spend hours trying to get armor or card. Battle Arena is the worst dungeon in whole CV series. Player literally have to spam attack. It's hard to find many games that offer you such utterly boring gameplay. Only mods like Hugh one from DPA along shooter abilities & all cards from the start in main mode can redeem this game & make it playable.

Lol man that sounds like a lot of hate. And yeah CotM is by far the worst metroidvania game in the series, but it isnt unplayable at all, and they just need to a good gameplay, like AoS, so... the solution here are:
1. make a super complex mod that fix the horrible physics to be closser to something playable and make some QoL changes like make the dash boots permanent. At the end the game need to be playable, dont strictly needs multiple endings or a 2nd unlocable player
2. move the thing to some other castlevania game, and LOST all the original game which I think is the easiest and crapiest option ;-;

2. move the thing to some other castlevania game, and LOST all the original game which I think is the easiest and crapiest option ;-; I feel no hatred towards this game. On the contrary, I wish to enjoy it. So I have to work on it's problems. First is obviously lack of a second playable character. There is already one in the game - Hugh, with in-game data to be playable. Multiple endings, various playable characters, non linear story, unlockable bosses, ability to fight against protagonist as enemies - these things directly affect quality of the game. I have no need to waste my time on a low quality one playable character title with useless grind. Older castlevanias have it simple - short game you beat in a hour. But then have you ever played Castlevania 3? Now this is an example of a high quality old style Castlevania. Back to COTM, I'm enjoyin it already. I have no need for grind, all cards are mine from the start in basic mode of the game. I have no need for useless unlockable modes with the same character in the same game. Small additions of those are mine anytime I want. Be it homing knives or spells in fighter mode, or even an ability to switch mode player character set on real time, any moment I want, with full control over it. Last & hardest thing to do, is give Hugh respect he deserves. And of course kill Nathan with Hugh once & for all, which I just did. Including a working event scene even. Just like I did it with many other boring protagonists & many other games. Time will tell if we can properly controll Boss Hugh & give Nate own AI to make a proper Hugh VS Nate battle gameplay. Tho we have CVF for that already. As for QoL changes, again no need for such ROM surgery. Constant run can be made with just RAM edit through Cheat Engine, I started using that for Richter in SOTN years ago.

Well.. I think is more your point of view, I think that a good game have fun secrets nice spritework and playability, CotM have nice secrets, but sadly the sprites even when they are pretty consistent, are not that good as they should and the gameplay suck as F. So if you can do what are you saying and add extra content will be really nice fix the physics too as you day that cheat engine can move that kind of values
Btw. Did the game really have data for add hugh as playable character??

Did the game really have data for add hugh as playable character?? It does not seem like Hugh have any mode style data, like J or Richter, but there are many weird things about him as is. Rumour says that he was playable in a demo, showcased before the game's release. But no direct proofs I've ever seen. Main facts against it would be 1. Hugh have no stagger animation. But he can use his fallin one always, instead of pain animation on the ground like Nate have. Also anti stagger Hugh havin can ironically be set on Nate & it works. 2. Attack animation Hugh have is very slow to be used as a jump attack. But then we have that idiotic skeleton & bear playable, both with unfinished low quality movesets. I bet there is a way to recreate other enemies using that transformation thing. 3. Slide & super jump skills, but they both are not required for the demo showcase. Then Hugh already have double jump, which is useless for the boss. Superjump can just use basic jump animation anyway. Also there is another very important thing - arena Hugh boss located on have places where player can just hide, without being accessible to Hugh. No idea what fool did this thing, but this feels like either lazy developer crap or unfinished content. If Hugh teleports up to catch Nate, he works fine there, BUT Hugh CANNOT properly fall down like it happens for the player despite he have jump animation. He randomly stucks in various parts of the stage in air, instead of fallin like it happens during the prologue. But then it's event version of Hugh used there.
