Hey y'all, I'm sort of new to this forum, so allow me to introduce myself real quick: I'm Rexius55, the leader of a small new game development team called "Shook." We hope to become a legendary game development company one day, and make up a team of nine members currently. Someone else you could see on this forum later on is a guy named DragonQuester676, who leads the team with me.
We've begun working on our first project: Super Castlevania V: Simon's Quest. What we aim to do with this project is recreate Castlevania II: Simon's Quest in the style of both a Super Nintendo game and a little bit of Symphony of the Night. Although we won't have the whip flailing, multiple whipping directions, and swinging of Super Castlevania IV, we'll be reusing and changing up some spritework from that game. However, don't be disappointed: this recreation will do a lot more. Each one of the mansions will have newer layouts, platforming, and unique aspects to them to make them more interesting and fun! All of the errors of the original NES game will be fixed, and areas will be tuned up both graphically and mechanically. There will even be a save function reminiscent of Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night's! This is where the teasing of the project ends, however, as we would like you all to be pleasantly surprised by the game yourselves!
As a disclaimer: we probably won't be asking for much help at all. Although the game may be a bit amateur in quality, we're putting a ton of love and care into this project. We also want to individually improve our skills and put ourselves to the test as a game development team, and so we likely won't be asking for much help, if any at all. We'll be putting a ton of work into this project though, don't worry!
The release date is set to be late December 2022, although it may take less time, depending on how we'll be able to balance school, family, friends, and work.
I and everyone else on the Shook team hope you're all excited for this project! Have a great day, afternoon, or night, wherever you are! By the way: feel free to ask non-spoiler questions below!
Little teasers:
will this be playable for Android or just for PC?

Unfortunately I don't have a PC right now but it would be awesome to be able to play this. Also

No rom for retropie people? It isn’t a rom hack, it’ll have its own code on Unity*! (Changed to Unity as of 3/3/22)

Update: We’re already pushing the estimate release date back. Some more stuff came up and we’ve gotta prepare for a bit more, so expect summer of 2023 or December of 2023 instead!

Sup y'all, bit of an update on our progress after a few months; the game is delayed, but we've got an awesome start and some fantastic ideas we're gonna give ourselves more time to work on! Here's a tease at a little more of what we're doing and plan to do: - Remixes of some beloved Castlevania tracks (mostly more obscure ones) with a few custom compositions mixed in! - Extra modes unlocked by finding secrets! - Voice acting! - Spritework more inspired and tweaked from games such as Castlevania Chronicles and Rondo of Blood!
Most of the rest of everything else will be shown off throughout development later on, so anticipate some exciting game footage! Also, the game's engine has been switched over to Unity, which will allow us to better implement some crazy and unique level designs. It'll probably take a little while, but we're working hard on creating something the Castlevania fandom and this forum will LOVE! Again, if anyone has any questions, ask 'em below!
Have a great day, afternoon, or night, wherever you are!

The project’s been postponed for a while. Not cancelled, but postponed. Apologies for the sudden news, for those who were anticipating more development insight.
