Hola Amigos!! I'm proud to finally join the Castlevania Modding forums, As my first post I want to share my own remake of Castlevania Adventure: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJJMPS2iIAcChristopher had the worst movement in all of the series on the original game, so for this remake, I made him rather agile. Gameplay wise now he plays as a blend of Rondo and Super Castlevania IV. You can whip diagonally up and down, including when climbing ropes. (Yes, there are ONLY ropes and no stairs like the original!) Graphics are with NES proportions but in a 16-bit style, and all tracks are remixed by me. On the demo video you can hear my remix of Battle of the Holy. Any feedback is appreciated!

I would put stairs with pitfalls kind of like in the original Castlevania 1 or like Castlevania 3 which is the better example than Castlevania 1 that way it gives more of a challenge where you have to go in between climbing stairs and then jumping from platform to platform and there's the chance that you could quite literally be hit by an enemy and fall you death or be hit on the stairs and fall to your death. Like in Castlevania 3.

Like in Castlevania 3. You got a point. Stairs are a staple CV mechanic, but the gameboy games are an exception, which is why I want to keep that unique element of the original game into this remake. One particular thing I don't like about Rebirth is that the ropes are completely absent as a game mechanic, and only seen as a background element for a skeleton enemy. Wasted potential! What you said about stairs can be done with ropes, only different is that ropes is only vertical movement. For the fan game though I am implementing moving ropes to form various fun hazards on the stages.

Since you have diagonal whipping here's a suggestion since you're doing rope swinging which is totally fine what about making it more difficult and putting areas where there is rope swinging but you got to use the whip to grab onto a ring like Castlevania 4 and swing yourself to the next rope. Something like that especially when the ropes are going back and forth can make it considerably more difficult. Would be a good challenge in the game.
