Yeah regarding simon, it really cannot leave entrance due to jump height. all 3 paths are blocked.
Regarding Maxim, I've did a playthrough and he does not have any of specials , save for the roll ability , but I think its okay ( if player wants to use default maxim he can play the vanilla one).
However one thing I did liked is that they not make it start with triple jump and slide , so it gives a sense of progression. too bad that specials /book fusion is not unlockable

I haven’t figured out what else he needs to be able to beat the game though and while still keeping him different from SIMONX. Do you know if you need the slide and double jump, and also super jump to be able to get to all the bosses and beat the game properly? I was thinking if he doesn’t need those, then it’s a small tweak in a hex editor to fix the jump height. And if he needs the double jump and super jump, maybe just give him the infinite jumping that Mario and megaman get when they find the double jump relic?

Also, an alternative to this is applying my NGP Patch. This makes the Sylph Feather, Lizard Tail, and Griffon Wing available right in the Entrance areas of the game. Using this you can finish the game with Simon. However the difficulty is still maddening due to lack of backdash and slow movement speed. Sliding becomes really the only method of dodging and is still risky at the best of times.

That doesn't apply to this scenario or my question StarWyvern, lol.
Regular Simon doesn't have the ability to use the powers gained from those relics, but I know what to do to change that. I just don't want him to be exactly like SIMONX.
So my question was if, when using the other characters for those of you who have played through Maxim Mode (or with Julius/JUSTEX/Mario/Megaman) is can you get to all of the bosses and beat the game without needing the double jump/slide/super jump?
The goal would be to keep Simon very slow and basic, but still have the ability to play through the castle and beat the last boss.

The clones are sent in front of Boss Maxim, while for Player Maxim, they are sent to each side to criss-cross covering the whole screen. I agree, Boss skill is better. Also, Sorrow, is there anyway to add the different Ninja Star animations (ice, fire, wind, lightning, black star)? DSV shows that there is a Star skill for each element listed in game yet we never get to see them? lame. The player still has access to the spells via Down+L+R and can switch between them with Up+L or Up+R, yet while equipped you are not allowed sub weapon use at all? This was just extremely lazy programming an Konami's part if you ask me. I have seen amazing things in CV and it isn't hard to believe they could've given each spell book a different skill for secondary characters. Hell Saturn Maria was secondary character and had a whole arsenal of skills!

As I said before, when playing as any secondary character, if you press Down+L+R simultaneously, it will change from sub weapon mode to spell mode. Then when in spell mode, pressing Up+L and Up+R will cycle the spell books left or right. This works with EVERY character, and yet it only allows actual use of it with Juste! ugh... Pressing Up+B does nothing while spells are highlighted unless you are playing as Juste. Can you change this? Also, under skills tab in DSV, it lists Shuriken as a skill that anyone can access as a sub weapon, along with various elements of it. Still I don't know how to make it accessible in game as a sub weapon for anyone else. Or why the Fire, Ice, Wind, and Lightning Shurikens are even there, given we never get to see them in game...

Oh I see, I just never new about the down+L+R shortcut.
But for the other fixes the reason they don’t work is because, they aren’t programmed in the game to begin with, and so they can’t be fixed.

Wait a moment, why doing this for ROTF, instead of a base game? Method you're using not working on it? ROTF sacrifices Max for Julius. In the worst case Max can use other special skills, as I showed years ago, that may come in handy I know how to make the change in HEX to allow Maxim access to Juste's spells, it's only 1 HEX Value to change, BUT it would only work if he was able to cycle through the Spellbooks AND get other subweapons in the castle, which he cannot, because when you load Maxim, he is stuck with the Shuriken. Maxim can only pause the game, and not access a menu, so I'm not sure how the Spellbook cycling works with the Extra characters besides Julius, but it doesn't matter anyways for Maxim, because of the candles not dropping any other subweapons in the castle. I've mostly been messing with Findesiecle ever since I ported it successfully to the USA rom. I know how to add the animations to a stock Harmony of Dissonance, but I don't see the point honestly. Plus, let's say I add these frames of animation to a stock HoD, then it would prevent it from being compatible with other patches because I have no idea what Free space any other patches have used up, and I know what locations of Free Space Findesiecle uses, and I am actually using space after the Findesiecle Hex Data, and thus extending the rom size, even if only by a little bit. I feel it is more fun to enhance Findesiecle.
