Hey there,
This is but a humble request or proposal to those that have the capability to make hacks /patches to SoTN for PSX to have its controls slightly updated to be more similar to the modern control scheme of Bloodstained / Aria of Sorrow.
I am aware that basic controls can be changed in-game but please hear me out.
As it is, not all shoulder buttons are used and this can provide some flexibility.
Proposed changes for Alucard would be:
L1 = Backslide (current use is Mist form)
L2 = Transform to Mist form (L2 is currently unused)
L2+R2 = Transform to Wolf Form
R2 = Transform to Bat form (current use is Wolf form)
These above changes should be pretty much just a straight forward remapping of the default controls.
Now comes the part where I think a bit more work would be needed...
Triangle = remap to use the sub-weapons (current use of the button is backslide) ; totally remove the sub-weapons function from Up+Square/Circle
L1 while jumping = Use the Gravity Boots jump (current command to use the high jump is Down, Up, X)
This would be similar in function to the High Jump shard in Bloodstained, and Hippogryph soul in Aria of Sorrow. The Gravity Boots relic would still be required before this can work.
Hold R1 = High Speed dash similar to the intro sequence when Alucard was running into the castle.
The dash should provide enough damage to destroy candles and weak enemies, and should also work with high jump and while he is in mid-air.
Basically, similar function to the Accelerator shard in Bloodstained or Black Panther soul in Aria of Sorrow
(current function of the button is to transform to Bat form)
The way this can be implemented acquisition-wise in-game is by importing a Saturn-exclusive item, the Godspeed Boots into the PSX version. If importing the item is not possible, perhaps a modification of an existing Relic would suffice, maybe only usable after acquiring Form of Mist, Bat and Wolf relics.
For Richter, maybe his controls can be updated to be similar to the way Julius plays in AoS.
L1 = backflip while on the ground. This would be his version of Julius's backslide
L1 while jumping / on mid-air = super jump / uppercut move
R1 = blade dash move
L2 / R2 = Switch sub-weapons. With this, you can scroll to the subweapons and still select the empty slot that lets you activate Fire Whip mode when pressing Triangle
Cirle = Use subweapons
Additionally, when going to the Menu as well as in the Save file load screen, X is currently the accept, and Triangle is cancel. Maybe update the cancel function to be mapped to the Circle button, like most modern games nowadays.
This might be too far fetched but I guess it's worth a shot throwing a request out.
Thanks
