Hello, my name is CranJam. I'm into a lot of things and Castlevania is one of them... But normally, that wouldn't be enough to make an account. But you see, I want to edit a sprite. I want to make my own version of Richter's sprite just for fun, but I don't know where to start. By that, I mean I don't know the modding tools, whether or not I should use the PSP or PSX version of SOTN to make him (Or maybe even Portrait of Ruin if I want to), if I could use the sprite sheets on Spriter's Resource to make him or if I'd need to use something else entirely... I'm not new to sprite work, but I've been made sprite stuff for Fire Emblem and Hotline Miami 2, not Castlevania. And hey, maybe I'll make more stuff after I'm done with Richter (or if I'll get it done that is). I know it's possible to do this as I've seen the Richter mods for PSP and PSX SOTN, I just don't know how to get there at all. Any help would be appreciated and I thank you for taking the time to read all this rambling. The Castlevania games have some beautiful sprite work and as such, the mods are usually on par if not better, so I'm excited to see where this road will take me.

Both SOTN versions hard to mod, because there are no user friendly public tools for those. You can use tile molester or Crystal Tile to locate sprites, but I can't confirm there is a possibility to import custom sprite properly. PSP SOTN have two differences: 1) Richter have additional player data there, which can be used to have a separate costume (I used that to be able to swap between his RoB & SOTN outfits, mod is published on this site & you can try it). 2) PPSSPP have own texture edit function which is very useful & used by many modders, especially for various HDfication projects. You can try to edit sprites with this function, but obviously it will work only through the usage of emulator then. As for Portrait Of Ruin or any DS CV title, you can edit it freely with DS vania & Dark Function. Custom sprites, palettes, skills, weapons, voices & even porting characters between games. Like Use Richter in Dawn Of Sorrow. All of this is possible, though there are limitations unless you can reprogramm the game. Start with simple sprite edit of Portrait Of Ruin.

I was worried about that, the lack of tools definitely weren’t hard to notice... But I mean, that never stopped me before so... I’ll see what I can do. Hell, if nothing else works, I’ll just use it in Castlevania Fighter just so it’ll be playable SOMEWHERE. Thanks man, I really appreciate the help!

For CV fighter you can get Debug version, which is open for everyone. It's also one of your options.

The Castlevania games have some beautiful sprite work and as such, the mods are usually on par if not better, so I'm excited to see where this road will take me. because of the lack of tools for modding Castlevania symphony of the night I would say your best bet would be to go with the portrait of ruined version of Richter Belmont that's my opinion on it though I know a lot of people have been using hex editor to edit Castlevania symphony of the night recently so you might want to look into that and speak to those on our modding forum who has done this recently you will find them in the PSX section and then you will have to look under work in progress and there should be a mod being made or Castlevania symphony of the night it should say PS1 sotn or sot and PS1 something like that and you'll talk to the guy who is creating that and ask him and he might be able to help you also thank you for joining our forum
