Hey there guys, So, I want to start in the Metroid franchise, I've played Metroid before, it was Metroid Fusion, and I played it to the end (but I never finished it), and I've played a little bit of Super Metroid, but my plan now is to play ALL the games from the franchise (at least the chronological ones), and I was wondering if there's anything I need to know, like if there's anything in the story that isn't explained in the games, or if I should skip certain games for some reasons... Noob stuff y'know?
And can someone explain to me about the Timeline? I searched the internet and got a little confused, Thanks Bros!

Most of the lore is explained through the games, though there's some that's exclusive to the manga, like in volumes 1 and 2 of it that explain Samus' origins
There are some games you may want to skip like the NES Metroid 1, Metroid 2: Return of Samus since they have remakes that are miles better, like Zero Mission and Samus Returns(official)/AM2R(fanmade), some people say to skip Other M due to many reasons, like the game not sharing many of the control similarities from the rest of the series, irrelevant story that makes Samus regress as a character, and a few nonsensical puzzles, also Prime: Federation Force since it's barely a Metroid game
A simple tl;dr of the timeline follows as:
Manga volumes 1 and 2 ----> NES Metroid/Zero Mission ----> Prime 1 ----> Prime Hunters ----> Prime 2: Echoes ----> Prime 3: Corruption ----> Prime: Federation Force ----> Return of Samus/Samus Returns ----> Super ----> Other M ----> Fusion ----> Dread
If you want to start playing the games again, I recommend starting with Zero Mission

Me personally, I would go this method: For Metroid 1, either of these two rom hacks: Retriod with MSU-1 patch plus Metroid 1 music (zeldix.net has this info) www.romhacking.net/hacks/3234/But that might be a little more complicated to setup, so then instead, play this hack for Metroid 1 NES called Metroid mOTHER www.romhacking.net/hacks/1988/And for Metroid 2, rather than Samus Returns, I prefer Another Metroid 2 Remake. Google is your friend, search AM2R as stated above. Then Super Metroid (Metroid 3) Then Metroid Fusion (Metroid 4) Those are the mainline games in chronological order. I myself don’t really like to play Metroid Zero Mission as a Metroid 1 NES replacement because it has too many abilities that Samus didn’t have until Super Metroid, so it makes it feel a little less like a “part 1” if that makes sense.

I've been a pretty big fan of the Metroid series as well. Here is a remix of Kraid's Theme from Metroid 1 I made a few years ago. Kraidstep 3.0

I read manga volume 1 and I'm currently in volume two chapter 10, and I'm kind of confused by one thing... I didn't understand anything about the power suit, I thought it was just an armor created by the Chozo, what screwed it up was Mother Brain's talk of "I created the power suit, so I'm your mother Samus!" What the Heck?!

Metroid fans, be honest, have any of you managed to finish NES Metroid without any help?

Metroid fans, be honest, have any of you managed to finish NES Metroid without any help? Not until I got older. When I was a kid, I used game genie codes. Infinite Missles, and Minimum Heath of 30 (health never drops lower than 30). Once I got older, and knew the game layout, I got it just fine with a little bit more effort. Final Equipment - Morph Ball, Long Beam, Bombs, Ice Beam (can freeze metroids), Missles, Varia Suit, High Jump, Screw Attack. Last part of Tourain was always a pain though because of all of the dang lasers. But those can be frozen too. Super Metroid was balanced way better. The difficulty is less because you have more equipment.

My dear friends, I am very proud to say, That I finished Metroid 1 on the NES without any help!! and words can't describe how satisfying it is, that's what I love about NES games, you have to figure it all out for yourself and the feeling of pleasure is great, seriously, don't skip this game, and if possible, play Metroid mOTHER Hack . I want to take this opportunity and ask a question, in many times I've seen the games timeline, people always prefer to skip the Prime series and say that there are only Metroid 1, 2,3 and 4(fusion) in the timeline. Why? I still plan on playing them but why do they exclude this trilogy? and why should I skip Other M? people say it's because of Samus' personality, can someone explain?

View AttachmentYooo congrats on beating Metroid 1! 🎉 The Prime games were sometimes excluded because they are considered "gaiden" games, but they also got fully canonized recently because of Samus Returns. Also about Other M "some people say to skip Other M due to many reasons, like the game not sharing many of the control similarities from the rest of the series, irrelevant story that makes Samus regress as a character, and a few nonsensical puzzles"

Alright dudes, Metroid Prime is the next on the list, I was wanting to play with PrimeHack on Dolphin, but it doesn't run on my PC, I'll find some config that works with the mouse and keyboard and play it the DEFINITIVE WAY!
